Eli Holzman, Executive Producer of AMC’s The Pitch, is interviewed by TV Time Machine host Jim Benson about the advertising reality series and his career, which includes producing Project Runway and Undercover Boss.
In this edition of TV Time Machine, we make an entrance into a world populated by real-life Mad Men and Women, as we explore AMC’s new reality series about competing advertising agencies, The Pitch. In this edition of our program, we are proud to welcome Executive Producer of The Pitch, Eli Holzman. Mr. Holzman is an Emmy-nominated creator and producer of such reality series as Project Greenlight, Project Runway, and Undercover Boss, and is the President of Studio Lambert.
Over these audio segments, Eli Holzman helps us explore virtually every aspect of this remarkable series, as we’re joined by co-host and real-life Mad Woman Lisa Rothstein, whose own Madison Avenue career includes working as creative director and copywriter for such advertising agencies as Young & Rubicam, Lintas, and Lowe Paris. Eli Holzman audio interview Segment One
In this segment, host Jim Benson and real-life advertising executive Lisa Rothstein talk to Eli Holzman about his early years growing up in New York, working at Miramax films as an assistant to legendary executive Harvey Weinstein, and working in a leading position within the TV department at Miramax. Mr. Holzman also discusses what attributes a producer needs to possess in order to be successful, working on the reality series Project Greenlight in the early 2000’s, and how drama is derived within reality shows, particularly, The Pitch.

Eli Holzman audio interview Segment Two
For the second segment, host Jim Benson and Madison Avenue veteran Lisa Rothstein discuss with producer Eli Holzman the genesis of The Pitch, the initial difficuly getting advertising agencies to buy into the concept and participate, and the making of the pilot episode featuring two advertising agencies vying for the Subway Restaurant account. Mr. Holzman also discusses the creative process and decision making that occurred in order to give The Pitch its stunning cinematic quality, and the remarkable behind-the-scenes story of one of the show’s participant’s, Paul Capelli, founder of The Ad Store, whose firm was competing for the Waste Management account.
