What's My Line? Live on Stage"This should be an L.A. institution!" - LA Weekly; "Witty... Charming... Stays true to its TV show roots..." - LA Times; "Spontaneous fun!" - Paper Magazine
A re-creation of the classic game show, What's My Line? Live on Stage is performed every Wednesday evening at the Acme Comedy Theatre in Los Angeles, California. Hosted by J. Keith Van Straaten and directed by Jim Newman, What's My Line? Live on Stage follows the basic format of the classic TV game show that ran for over 25 years on both CBS-TV and in syndication: Four celebrity panelists attempt to guess the occupation of a guest, asking only yes-or-no questions. The contestants are regular folks with interesting or unusual occupations - and each performance features a show-stopping appearance by a famous celebrity mystery guest. This version of What's My Line?, however, is not broadcast - the only audience are the folks who show up in the intimate 99-seat theatre located in the heart of tinsletown. What's My Line? Live on Stage is played with real people with real occupations and genuine celebrity mystery guests - just the right formula for an evening of spectacular entertainment. What's My Line? Live on Stage has featured a roster of stars that read like a Who's Who of luminaries from every quarter of the celebrity world: entertainment, sports, and politics. Larry King, Drew Carey, Michael & Kitty Dukakis, Paul Williams, Elliott Gould, Ed Asner, Noah Wyle, Tara Lipinski, LeVar Burton, George Wendt, Lisa Loeb, Jose Canseco, Lindsay Wagner, Mr. Blackwell, Wink Martindale, Rip Taylor, Alan Thicke, Alan Rachins, Gary Owens, "Weird Al" Yankovic, George Takei, Laraine Newman, Danny Bonaduce and Joan Van Ark, are but a few of the famous mystery guests who have graced the What's My Line? stage over the past year. Celebrity panelists have included April Winchell, David L. Lander, Greg Proops, Ann Magnuson, Wil Wheaton, Teresa Ganzel, and Patt Morrison. Remarkably, several people who appeared as panelists and Mystery Guests on the original What's My Line? TV show, have appeared on What's My Line? Live on Stage. These include Jayne Meadows (1954-1974), Lee Meriwether (1954), Jill Kollmar (1954), Nanette Fabray (1962 & 1966), Marty Ingels (1964), Kelly Lange (1967 & 1969), Joanna Barnes (1967-1975), Danny Goldman (1968), Rose Marie (1971), James MacArthur (1974), and Monty Hall (1974). Original contestants have appeared as well, including a Girdle Tester from 1954, a Highway Line Painter from 1955, and a Musical Instrument Inventor from 1974. For more information on What's My Line?
